2008 NFCA Convention
December 10-13, 2008 -- Marco Island, Florida
The 2008
NFCA National Convention will be a special one since it marks the 25th
anniversary of the Association. To be held December 10-13 at the beautiful Marco
Island Marriott in Marco Island, Florida, the event will be extra-special with
remembrances of years gone by. The Marriott offers a spectacular setting for
the convention since it s located right on the beach and weather is expected to
be perfect!
Of
course, the regular features of the convention will still be in place: great
networking opportunities, three-day instructional clinic, exhibitor show and
caucus meetings to discuss issues affecting the sport.
It also
will be the seventh year that some National Fastptich Coaches College sessions
will be held in conjunction with the convention. NFCC Director Sharon Drysdale
has scheduled two courses, one before the convention and one afterwards. Course
404, “Solid Team Defense and Strategy,” is one of the Coaches College’s most
popular courses. Dates are Sunday noon through Tuesday noon, December 7-9. The
post-convention course, “Winning Strategies for Game-Day Coaching” (Course 407)
will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, December 13, and end at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December
15. This is a new course dedicated to all facets of game day, from travel to
pregame to lineup to bench management.
Although
the subject matter is not yet finalized, the preconvention seminar will be held
Tuesday, December 9, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
All
convention meetings will take place at the Marco Island Marriott, and rooms have
been blocked there. Rates are $139 single or double.
When
Should I Arrive?
If you are interested in attending the opening National Fastpitch Coaches
College course, you should arrive Saturday, December 6, or the early morning of
Sunday, December 7. Pre-convention attendees should arrive Monday, December 8,
or early morning Tuesday, December 9, while golfers/tennis players should get to
Marco Island Tuesday, December 9, since the golf and tennis tournaments are on
Wednesday morning. The opening business meeting, which is followed by the
Louisville Slugger Opening Reception, also is Wednesday.
The
exhibitor show is Thursday and Friday, and the clinic spans Thursday, Friday and
Saturday. Caucus meetings are Thursday and Friday.
The NFCA
Hall of Fame Banquet will be held Friday night, December 12, while Easton will
present its Victory Club awards at a luncheon Thursday, December 11.
The
convention will end late Saturday afternoon, so you can schedule return travel
on Sunday, December 14, unless you plan to stay for the post-convention course.
How
Do I Register?
Look for your actual registration materials in August. In addition, look for
updates on the web <www.nfca.org> and in Fastpitch Delivery. You will be
able to register again on-line with a credit card or purchase order number.
Can I
Make My Hotel Reservations Now?
Yes, we’ve blocked rooms at the Marco Island Marriott. (Call 239/394-2511 by
November 3, 2008).
What
about Transportation?
Marco Island is located on the Gulf side of Florida, and the closest airport is
Fort Myers. It is suggested that you not rent a car, since the island is small
and parking is expensive. There is a local trolley to take you around the
island once you are there. The NFCA is making arrangements with a shuttle
service for transportation to and from the Fort Myers airport, and more
information will be available in August.
