LOUISVILLE, Ky. – West Texas A&M remained the unanimous No. 1 program and Wingate moved into the top 10 in this week’s 2024 NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.
The Lady Buffs (35-4) took two-of-three from Lubbock Christian in Lone Star Conference action and entered the week winners of 10 of their last 11.
There was no movement below WT until then-No. 9 Grand Valley dropped two more contests last week and fell to No. 14. With that, the next five programs, including new-No. 10 Wingate, moved up one spot apiece. The Bulldogs (37-6), who entered the week with the longest active winning streak of 17 games, did not allow a run in a pair of South Atlantic Conference sweeps of Limestone and Emory & Henry.
With a four-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) sweep of Simon Fraser, No. 11 Western Washington (30-4) extended its winning streak to 13 games, matching the program record set earlier this season, along with being the fastest Viking team to reach 30 wins in a season.
The next change in the rankings came at the No. 18 and 19 spots where Northwest Nazarene (30-7) and Lenoir-Rhyne (34-10) flip-flopped. The Nighthawks ran their win streak to eight games with a GNAC road sweep of Montana State-Billings, while the Bears went 3-1, dropping their lone contest to Anderson, 7-6.
The only other movement was No. 23 Washburn and No. 24 Cal State San Marcos traded places as well. The Ichabods (34-10) have won 11 straight following MIAA road sweeps of Nebraska Kearney and Fort Hays State, while the Cougars (23-14) took three-of-four from Cal State Monterey Bay CCAA action.
