On October 25, 2021 the Kaplan Hecker law firm (KHF) released phase II of their gender equity report as part of their comprehensive and thorough review of gender equity issues in connection with the NCAA. For Phase II, which was conducted over the course of approximately three months, KHF was asked to assess gender disparities in the experiences of male and female student-athletes at the NCAA’s 84 other championships, for which more than 500,000 student-athletes, across 23 sports and three divisions, strive to qualify. The phase II report looks at NCAA championships through a broader lens, identifying patterns or trends in the ways in which the NCAA’s policies, practices, and culture around gender equity impact the student-athlete championship experience, as well as highlighting factors that can lead to more equitable championships.

On June 10, 2021, representatives* from the NFCA met with members from the Kaplan Hecker law firm as part of their comprehensive and thorough review of gender equity issues in connection with the NCAA, with a primary focus on NCAA championships and specifically, the Women's College World Series. Many topics and statistics were presented, including but not limited to post-season roster sizes, scheduling, overall student-athlete experience, and sponsorship opportunities. The final Kaplan Hecker report and recommendations will be released later this summer. As always, we will keep you informed throughout the process. The NFCA will do whatever we can to promote gender equity.
